A tribute to Helen
The NZ election was today, and what a great race it was.
National (read: dodgy tory esc party) was in the lead up until about 85% of the votes were counted. National were basically riding on a cut taxes, put race relations back 30 years, platform. These types of policies tend to get support in small town NZ were the population hasn't got much time for the social welfare issues of the rest of the country.
Labour (lead by the intelligent and beautiful leader Helen Clark) pulled away for a one seat victory, but now have to look for one or more collation partner(s).
So, in summary what does this mean for NZ. Almost certainly another Labour government which is good news. No interest on Student Loans (excellent), and fair and equal chances for all NZer's, rather than the privaliged ones.
Well done Helen, we salute you.
